Map 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, and 24 missing?

I don't remember this being a thing, but now there's a gap in the map numbers, so typing "map 17" in console would say "map 17 not found"
Possibly, this is making space for the new maps preemptively.
IN THE FUTURE

(RVZ1)
Map 17 - Red Volcano 2
Map 18 - Red Volcano 3
Map 19 - Grand Eggship 1
Map 20 - Grand Eggship 2
Map 21 - Grand Eggsip 3
(ERZ1)
(ERZ2)
Map 24 - Egg Rock 3

Now, it doesn't make sense for Red Volcano to go into Dark City, which is why I instead guess it will be Eggship. It makes sense for the Eggship to be how Sonic gets to Egg Rock, and for it to be a very late game level.
Somehow, there's no gap in the maps from 1-16, so... what about Dark City? Black Core seems like it would be the final area, but Dark City comes before Eggship right? Could this mean Map 19, 20, and 21 are Dark City, and Eggship is after Black Core. OR the map numbers were an accident, and Eggship comes after Red Volcano.

Thoughts?

in fact, I think it could be that Grand Egg Ship had only one act and Dark City 2, but that's just a assumption.

There has been a gap before. Dark City is meant to be after Red Volcano, yes, and Dark City and Grand Eggship might not be full zones, which has been stated before. I guess we'll see.

Is this "zone order" final? I don't see how you would go from a volcano into Dark City, if only there were like transitions or cutscenes maybe. I know there used to be like drawings for zone transitions in the old demo days or something

I don't think it is more illogical than going from a castle to the desert and then to a volcano. Sonic roboblast 2 does not have a logical order of zones and the classic games except 3 and knuckles did not have transitions.

in the future i could see srb2 getting transitions like 3&K possibly. I never thought srb2's zone order was illogical, and the difficulty curve isnt harsh, even in the 2.0 or final demo i dont remember there being a big difficulty curve. I probably just filled in the gaps between said zone myself maybe or imagined the locations of the zones and how close they are to eachother? I dunnoo, maybe it is illogical

Has been final for about over 10 years. Also, yea, CEZ to ACZ makes just as little sense. You could just climb out of the volcano and head down into Dark City, especially since the rocket in RVZ is just a placeholder.

Dark City could possibly be an easier level than Red Volcano, due to RVZ being full of lava and fire hazards. If it's after RVZ, i'd hope it not be harder. May not like Dark City especially if the level's going to be dark. I did play the old dark city in like demo 2, and i played the level in the 2.2 port and it was horrible, of course if Dark City was in 2.2 it would be way way way better designed, but i mean we go from a volcano to a dark city, its bound to be far less interesting. How do you even design a city. I don't like darkness btw ._.

Grand Eggship would obviously be in the sky. Which would be an appropriate difficulty curve, we went from lava and fire hazards to closer to egg rock, and now there's death pits instead of lava. And it makes sense with the zone order, Red Volcano - Doomship - Egg Rock - Black Core
Red Volcano in 2.0 and Final Demo i believe had some metal walls and parts at the end, and crates, possibly one of Eggman's bases is in there and thats why Sonic goes to that zone. I liked the 2.0 "fall into a hole to go to RVZ" approach, but who is driving the train and why do moving vehicles ALWAYS go into volcanoes.

Doomship to Egg Rock is extremely likely in my opinion. It would make as much sense as Wing Fortress to Death Egg Zone.
I always felt a canyon to a volcano made sense. But yeah I have wondered how we get on a train in ACZ3 anyway, is there a train station very very close? The end of ACZ2 is a mine or a cave looking section iirc

But yeah, now thinking about it, alot of levels are kind of hard to think about transitions. I mean Castle Eggman to Arid Canyon, you dont know what happens between. Deep Sea to Castle Eggman i believe was a "exit the cave into the area outside of the castle" thing, but in 2.2 its much less obvious as there is no cave, there's nothing it looks like. Deep Sea is like a temple inside a cave or something. It would make sense if it was built under a city, or one of it's exits lead to a city possibly. And honestly Castle Eggman is such a cool idea, I don't know if going from a Castle to a City is the most "epic" thing. Who knows though

Are you saying RVZ doesnt have a rocket inside it that flies out of the volcano into the sky? I mean... sure, it's one act now, but whats to say act 3 couldn't go into Eggship. Have the devs stated they're not changing anything?

Oh and a City would be nowhere near a Volcano, there's that too

The reason RVZ has a rocket right now is so that the transition makes sense. We obviously still need Acts 2 and 3 and Dark City wouldn’t be in space

So what if RVZ had a rocket in ACT 3 that took you to EGGSHIP which took you to ERZ which took you to BLACK CORE
and what if DARKCITY was AFTER DEEP SEA ZONE, it would make sense because why is a castle the third zone of a game lmao. But there is the argument that DCZ to ACZ would make more sense than CEZ to ACZ

You realize that this layout has been decided for literally 10 years right? Saying it doesn’t make sense is an extremely moot point when you realize that the game takes place on a self contained island

Technically, if you look at everything, SRB2 consists of 2 islands with Deep Sea between them, but that's besides the point.
As Chezi said, all of the islands vary in location and general route.
Sonic 1's implied to be going from the low coastlands of Green Hill to a mountain base in Scrap Brain and potentially Sky Base if you include it.
Sonic 2 meanwhile has you reach the mountains then plummet down before reaching Robotnik's base of operations and ascending into the Death Egg.
Sonic 3 has you first go after Launch Base Zone, a lake with what is likely Robotnik-influenced ruins around it housing the Death Egg, THEN has you climb into Lava Reef before ascending upwards and to the Death Egg.

If you really wanted to dissect the route of SRB2, SRB2 has you go from the coastal lowlands of Greenflower into the polluted regions of Greenflower now known as Techno Hill, then the train at the end of THZ3 crashes in a cave that leads into Deep Sea, which is under the ocean, which then likely opens up into a cave that leads to Castle Eggman. From there, you reach either the top of the clock tower or somewhere nearby to fight Robotnik, then head down into ACZ via a road, then the ACZ3 train likely crashes just like the THZ3 train into Red Volcano. You then exit Red Volcano into Dark City, which either has a rocket there or has the Grand Eggship landed for supplies. From there, the Grand Eggship flies into space and docks with the Egg Rock. You then blow up the Egg Rock, release the Black Rock, and head back down via escape pod.

Makes just as much sense as going from a lush grassland (Emerald Hill) to a chemical refinery (Chemical Plant) to flooded ruins (Aquatic Ruin) to a casino (Casino Night) to the top of a volcano (Hill Top).

If you take the right path you dont actually get to blow up anything :sadboi:
anyway ACZ to RVZ is like Oil Ocean to Lava Reef huh?

That's just my guess going off the presence of the train in ACZ3, but the route there is primarily based off clues in the levels themselves and stuff present in earlier renditions that still seems likely.
