Making Sonic Run on Water - How?

I know it's possible, but how is it done? I've tried making a map where the water is level with the ground, but Sonic still falls through into the water. I've also tried giving him Super Sneakers, that doesn't seem to work either. I did it with Tails -- ONCE -- in CEZ2. I had the super sneakers then, too.
 
That'd be kind of weird, though. Everyone in Sonic 3 could do the run-on-top-of-water thing, why only Tails, now? Sonic gettin' old?
 
*) Pop open srb2win.exe in a hex editor.
*) Locate the several addresses where it checks if the player is Tails (1). Change this to Sonic (0).
*) Save.
*) Play.

Maybe it could be a skin thingy for 1.1.
 
THen the intro lies, it says that Sonic SKIMMED over water and ran through LOOPS ;P
 
The real world equivalent of Sonic's speed in SRB2 (without shoes) is about 75-80mph. With shoes, probably ~ 100.

Because SRB2 is not Sonic X. *shot*

No, really, the reason Sonic is so much slower in the games than portrayed outside of it is because it would be insanely impossible to control him. Sonic was going so damn fast in Sonic X, so please tell me if it is possible to have the slightest amount of control if he had that speed in the games. XP
 
It's too bad we can't go faster than we do, though. XP

It would be neat to make a skin with a max speed faster than Sonic =P

Super Sonic isn't that hard to control, even in SRB2. However, if SS swerved from side to side like he did in Demo 4.- something, then it'd be hard.
 
I can up the top speed... But that would just be stupid.

I may end up changing running on water to be a Sonic-only thing, but I can see it becoming VERY handy for balancing out Tails in Match.
 
Why not just have it be for all characters? But limit the conditions... if the player is close enough to the top of the water when he comes off the cliff, then he runs on the water -- but if the drop is high enough, he doesn't.

I say this because in one of the new SASRB2 levels there's a bit with a dashplate that I want to send Sonic racing across the top of the water to a spring; but of course, that can always be changed if Sonic can't.

No he won't. You see, Tails is the only character who has access to all areas in the level, and I am actually content with his current speed. In fact, I wouldn't mind if the next demo made him slower. If Tails' speed is upped, then he won't be balanced anymore, and it won't give players a single damn reason to play as Sonic anymore.
