Oh my lord, this guy is awesome! He kinda reminds me of a mix between ShogunGeckomon and the fishmen from Breath Of Fire, the latter of which I would not be surprised if they were an inspiration.

Funnily enough, I have no idea who that first one is. I had face shapes from those games in mind when getting the design down. I always liked the eye shape from the Creeping Clan, the frogs and leaned more on them for face shape. The mouth shape is similar to the Manillo fish clan since we needed a mouth shape to work with since it's not like there are many... (I think?) fish OC characters in the Sonic style. It's an anglerfish so he needed a big looking mouth!

The similarities though, ironically are just throwing ideas at a wall and seeing what looked nice! The merchant angle, always loved merchant characters and wanted to make something unique. He's a bigger character but has a stubby looking appearance befitting of a merchant who will try to sell you things at...prices. :) He does give off that same energy I suppose!

I'll post my reference of Lure I had. I think the sprite style Ring Racers uses kinda has that same cartoony vibe and detail those games used back then.
