Don't know if this is intentional, but if something happens to make SRB2 lose focus (switching windows, screensaver kicks in, ect.), when you return to the game it will show the last four lines printed in the console. It does this in XSRB2 too.
There's also still a bug that sets in if you switch windows with Alt+Tab. When you open SRB2 again (with or without Alt+Tab) it forces the Tab key to "stick" until you press it again. Under the default controls this has the visible effect of making the score display not go away until pressing Tab.
