Linking Sectors?

This is a simple question, I'm sure anyone who has ever designed a level can answer it.

Obviously, a level's border is not made of one gigantic sector. (At least, I hope not) New "rooms" of the level I would suppose are each their own sector or several sectors. However, I dont understand the process of putting sectors together. As far as I can tell, you'd have to delete certain walls of one sector to allow passage into a new sector, but that would really mess with thok barriers and all that stuff.

The page about this in the wiki is hazy at best (If in fact it is even there at all)

There must be a way to build a simple level that's more than one giant room. What do I have to do to connect two sectors without messing up my thok barriers?

I wouldn't get started with the thok barrier right away when the first room is built for one thing. I would be able to help you build corridors to a second room with screenshots but so far I have no file host

First rule: DON'T EVER JUST DELETE A WALL FROM A SECTOR. Just don't do it, period. It's an easy way to make horrendous level glitches.

It's extremely simple to combine sectors. Just select the two sectors you want to turn into one, go up to the "sectors" menu bar, and click "Merge Sectors". Alternately, you could just select the sectors and press "ctrl-J". I would strongly recommend that you also first make sure that both the sectors you want to combine have identical properties, too.

BTW, it actually IS possible for you to make the outer wall be just one big sector. In fact, it's desirable. However, it's generally better to make this big sector form-fitted around the level, rather than make it a huge square. You can make it a huge square if you want, but this may increase the likelihood that your level will have slime trails.

I disagree. I always make a small thok barrier first thing, and put a room inside it that takes up the whole thing. Later, I expand the thok barrier as needed.

Ok.

As you can probably tell I am very new to this and I'm currently working on the first prototype of the first version of the first thing I've ever built that could be called an actual level.

I made a practice room with all the fixings using the wiki, but now I'm trying to make something playable, so expect more questions from me soon.

Thanks again guys.
