I think you have crossed into part where its an invisible wall with collision on.
To make sure everyone can view the background,the walls have to be more shorter.You also have to prevent players who use glide and climb characters like Knuckles so they dont actually fall into an bottomless pit which is outiside of the level's design.That luckly happens in very,very rare situations,however in few places you can touch thise invisible walls.
This would likely be a reason why are there invisible walls into few places you have been showned.

Hmmm. That is SRB2 Jank and its wall checking code. I think that the code doesnt remove the climbing because you are pressing against the wall and on the edge of the thingHere's another bug
