Knuckles exhibits strange glide/climb behavior when he is tiny. His gliding angle is very steep, which makes the ability substantially less useful. Also, while his up-and-down movement while climbing is properly scaled, his side-to-side movement isn't, so he zooms left and right while inching up and down.
