is there any way to replace the sprites of race metal sonic?

cause when i tried to do it using the same names and whatnot it didnt work and ive tried looking at other mods to see if im doing something wrong but none of the ones i found replace race metals sprites so idk.

Race Metal Sonic just outright uses the sprites of the player skin he is set to, AFAIK from my attempts to make you able to race Sonic. Any seperate Metal sprites aren't for the race, but rather the battle.

i see ok thanks i kinda had a suspicion that this was the case maybe i could find a way to replace playable metal sonic to get this to work idk.
