Is there any possible (or good) way to reduce lag in SRB2?

I've been trying to play SRB2, but when I get to Techno Hill, my frame rate drops to 5-10 frames per second.
Any tips on how to reduce lag? Thanks.

Try switching to Software Mode for a few seconds, then switching back to OpenGL. (PS: You should've posted this in Troubleshooting Unmodded SRB2)
