[Intended] Players can get killed in spectator mode

pretty sure this is something that's been around for a long time, forgot if it was intentional or not
 
According to a quick search, it's intentional. If they didn't die, then they would apparently get stuck.
 
Just because you can't get stuck in some situations doesn't mean it's impossible to get stuck in others. Our game supports one-time sector movement, which can totally crush a player in a manner where the crusher wouldn't release the player afterwards.

Spectators being killed by crushing is intentional behavior.
 
Noclip is not safe behavior to have. When clipping outside of a stage, the game can crash. This is okay for a tool for testing, but not okay for a real gameplay mechanic.
 
idclip IS noclip. It has a different name, that's all.

You ask a lot of questions that could be answered with five minutes of research.
 
You could give spectators zero size so they fit through any sector, but that doesn't account for when the sector encloses the player. It's really much safer to keep it the way it is. Although, the message is kind of funny. (Especially the third one)

I've even gotten stuck in the popular ZDOOM engines. The most common issue is a door closing down on a recess in the floor.

Even if it did, why would we want spectators, players who aren't supposed to have an effect on the game, be able to hold a door open?

The reason spectators get crushed is because it's by far the easiest solution and doesn't cause any negative issues anywhere else.
 
Though it's still intended for spectators to die like this, the message doesn't show up anymore when they do die.
