I'm having problems changing the controls

I can't make 1 key do 1 thing, i don't know how to explain it, but i can't make 1 key do just 1 thing. Like the ones that say "press z or x", i can only change one of them, not both.

Highlight the control you want to change and press backspace. Then set the control.
