Hi im new to the forums. I try to modify a wad's frames and when I make them look the way I want the games stops and I have to delet the wad. So I dont know what to do can someone help me?

Sorry, but you need to be more specific than "the game stops". The game can stop in about a hundred different ways (via error messages) and in different places.

Ritz, that is not the proper way to deal with new users. First we must try to help them, convert them to experienced users, and if that doesn't work, we use our handy dandy warning system. And if that still doesn't work, then we ban them. Honestly, if we don't give the newcomers a chance, there will be nobody left to replace us when we leave.

sonic22:

1. I wasn't exactly "arguing" with him.

2. You totally missed my post telling you to be more specific.

Just thought I'd clear that up.

It's Probably a Segment Violation? Here's the thing...

When you attempt to Edit a Character, you usually end up screwing it up. It's no one's fault, it's just how it is.

When you want to edit a character, you have to make a New Wad (Or if you use the Latest XWE beta, you can use the Replace Function ^_^) and place all of the Graphics and the Edits in there all at one time. If you don't do that, then it Just Segment Violates or becomes invalid =|

I really hope that helps (Did I break any rules by doing so?)

Yes, my guess is that he's not using the XWE beta, and it auto-capitalized his a and b frames.

Ok you still haven't answered my question. (I have have misspelled something)

I'm not leaving, though I now know how to make characters...not levels.

Look, sonic22, we're trying to help you, but you aren't being specific about what error you're getting. We've already given you suggestions, but you haven't accepted them. In order for us to solve your problem, you need to do your part.

Ok I have tried to make a character wad and I made the frames new and all that, but when I try to play as the new wad it will turn off the game (srb2) and I dont know what to do.

Yes, but how does the game end? Do you get an error message? If so, what?

Actually, here's a better idea. Why not post the file here so we can look at it?

Love the way Foxblitz handles the newcomer. Thats how its done. Not making fun of/flaming the newcomer for asking dumb questions, not being specific is great. Way to go, Foxblitz. You just showed something many experienced users here don't have.

As for you, Sonic22. Try to replace pictures with 256-color bitmap files. You can't use JPG or something to do the job. Also, don't modify default wads of SRB2. It could screw up the game. Only replace frames of custom wads like Shadow, Flame, Lightdasher, or those kinds of character wads.

I don't think a messed up sprite lump could cause SRB2 to crash - look at what happens when you try to use a not-flat (wall texture) as a floor texture. It just has extra data appended to it that the game interprets as pixel color instead. My guess is that it's a naming issue. Incorrect names of lumps can cause SRB2 to crash, and if you're not using the XWE beta, then you'll have a problem with auto-capitalization.

Ok I when I try to make a wad I clicked new on the extended wad editor and when I have made it how I want it the game will mess up and I redownload the wad I was modifing.

So you're saying that after editing an existing WAD, it's crashing the game? Try downloading the latest XWE beta, and in the options dialog, tell it to not auto-capitalize lump names. That may be your problem.
