You can download DOOM wads and play them in SRB2. However...they don't look the same.....I downloaded a DOOM wad called ELEVATO2.wad and it played (looked different with many crawlas and un-DOOMish textures).

Because the WAD is designed to use the textures in doom...not SRB2. This isn't really new. Many maps have been converted as a metter of fact, from Doom wads to SRB2 wads.

Dark Mystic, the textures are different because textures are not stored in normal wadfiles, they are stored in the game's wad (IWAD, I think it's called).
In other words, it's not going to be using textures from doom2.wad, it's going to be using textures from srb2.srb.

Ok...but some of the levels are VERY VERY laggy. I was on one just a minute ago (a different one). They also tend to be confusing...

You can add DOOM1.WAD to SRB2 and get some funny results. All textures revert to the default Doom ones for some reason- even the GFZGRASS, so it looks like you have to jump over a huge wall when really you can go through it. Also, Sonic and the enemies turn into the marine and zombie marines respectively, but as they move, they kind of collapse-walk, and Sonic explodes as he runs. Oh yeah, and the rings are all messed up too.

I'm kind of amazed you people are doing this without the game crashing. Heck, how are you supposed to even use the first (or Ultimate) Doom, when it uses the ExMx format for map naming, while SRB2 uses Doom II's MAPxx format? Let alone get past the first room, since the switches won't work and the doors will be shut.

It just reverts to the SRB2 MAPxx levels I believe. The original Doom levels (after editing the WAD for the MAPxx format) don't work well in SRB2 without modification because of their low ceiling heights, and the fact that they use sector specials that kill Sonic at the start of the level.

Hey now, we should start a Sonic Demon Blast WAD (reverse of Sonic Doom 2).

I was thinking about SRB2 DoomWorld...where it is just regular SRB2 with a couple of extra levels with Doom textures and monsters...and the slime is replaced with the acid in DOOM.
