It looks like "fixed point math for patch scaling" isn't quite working right, at least on Linux or possibly all SDL builds. The in-game hud gets all scrunched together at the top. Here's a screenshot:
Tested and confirmed present in Trunk revisions 7122 and 7124 (current as of this post). No changes to source code. Built using make LINUX=1.
Revisions prior to 7122 do not contain the bug.
Using software rendering. Occurs in all screen resolutions other than 320x200, getting worse as the resolution increases. Bug only present in in-game hud to my knowledge. Game menu and Greenflower Act 1 confirmed working perfectly.
