Hit the nail on the head right there. If SSN was about to limit himself to anything remotely resembling a deadline, I've got a feeling either the general public would go crazy over how much longer they think it'll take, or he'd be pressured into releasing a crappy incomplete "final version"

That is an impossible to answer question. We are the ones making the game, and we don't know ourselves. I understand that "have patience" isn't the answer you wanted to hear, but it's the ONLY answer.
