Now, this was supposed to be in the level design contest, but my email messed up and my map had a couple of errors, so it didn't manage to enter. I didn't want to release this until I had a couple more levels done, but what the hay.

This is my first wad, so be gentle. This might be the beginning of a level pack, so I'm not gonna make any changes to the length. Constructive criticism is appreciated!
I worked hard to keep a certain atmosphere to the level. The next level will be set in night time. As for secrets, let's just say that RedXVI found a new place to live. Don't bother knocking, go right on in!

As you can see, I found many uses for trees, unlike many other maps I've seen which have them for purely decorative uses.

1) Just because this is your first, doesn't mean we have to be nice.
2) Some of the platforming parts kill the flow.
3) The music you put is annoying. Spring Hill's song is better.
4) Where the trees with the doors are, the one on the right's window is single-sided.
5) Work on your enemy placement. Most of the time, they are in large groups, but you can simply walk around them.
6) Love the detail, but I think it got too much in the way of the level.

I know, people tend to lighten up a little when taking that into consideration. Anyway, thanks for the comments. I'll update the download link when I have a bit more criticism. I seem to have noticed most of the things on that list a little too late, and overlooked them. Also, I think your music suggestion is a bit irrelevant, I was going to put tunes 93, but I decided to save that for the next level.

EDIT: What do you mean that the scenery gets in the way of the level? Can you list one instance?
 
See ice you finally released it and it looks awesome, just like when i tested it.

I updated the download link. Nothing major, just fixed the one-sided window and moves a couple enemies here and there.

Watch out with the texturing for waterfalls. The solution is to use two FOFs, one for the top part and one for the rest.

Are those holes in the ceiling meant to be there?

I thoked into both of those walls (for no reason :P) and I bounced off them (normally you just stop). Is there any reason for the bouncing? Because it seems unnatural to bounce off from wood :/

And here my bad criticism ends :P
 
Oh, now I see how to make those waterfalls. It seems that I must've not noticed those holes in the sky, but I think they look rather cool. I'll remove them though. Also, I forgot to uncheck the "bouncy wall" option for the part with the trees. But inside the treehouses for some reason, there was a glitch and you could thok through the windows, I think it went away though after 123runite fixed some of the errors. I'll make sure to fix that.
 
The minimum width for a wall to prevent thoking is 32. Yep, I checked it a lot of times and it works. So there you go :)
 
Nice wad! And I found the hidden emerald. First when I went there, I saw no emeralds, I jumped on the house 3 times, nothing. Then, I was thinking of the way of GFZ2, touch the door, and then...
Hope you'll create act 2, and act 3 with a little harder boss...

Anyway, I updated the download link. Nothing worth re-downloading over, just fixed some waterfalls and a couple textures. Act 2 is in progress...
 
This is the best thing I've seen in a while. Of course, I haven't downloaded any WADs since March, and that was the level design contest, and I didn't download anything before that since around November, but no offense, this si still a good WAD.
 
What the...? I remember the name of this level from that topic where you wanted us to help you with names for this. I never realised that is was that level until now, just from seeing that name again.

I've played the level, and it's great, even for a first level. It could have got plenty of good votes if it had been entered in the OLDC in time. But I'm not keen on that music for the level - it could have been the music you said you were going to use for the next level.
 
I think that the music for the next level will fit in better though, seeing as it's set in night time, and there's gonna be more water.

Actually, it is much less than that. Take a look at GFZ if you don't believe me.
 
I loved the detail. I really did. My only gripe was that the game-play detracted from the overall experience. You might consider reworking the game-play entirely later-ish.

And no, the scenery doesn't get in the way of the level. If anything, I'd say the level gets in the way of the scenery.

Hm, so I can guess it's safe to say that I can make good scenery, but need to work at making the gameplay better?
