Help with saving

How do i save my single player data On SRB2 V.2.0.4? I have tried pressing F1 - F12 but none of them allows me to save. Please help.

It autosaves now, but only by Zone instead of act.

This is to prevent save file abuse.

You don't. It doesn't show anything like, GAME SAVED!

Clear a zone. It saves. That's all you need to know.
