Help with level headers involving letters

see topic and a good exmple is my shadowycity.wad wich uses mapA1.
In other words I need help.

Convert them to their real numbers. So, i.e., MAPA1 would be 101, not A1. I didn't took a look to the WAD (I can't open it here), but I guess the problem is something with that.
