I'm trying to make decorative Egg capsules for my level, but the Wiki tutorial is too confusing to extract any useful information out of. Please note that I'm making decorative capsules, not ones that rise out of the ground and open or anything.
Oh, you mean Egg Capsules that are just scenery? You can do that with basic FOFs. Just study what the raised Egg Capsules look like, and recreate it. It's certainly much, much easier than making an Egg Capsule which actually functions.
