RistarEnjoyer
In the running for the worst Pixel Monkey!
Hello, everyone! I just would like to make a pitch to the broader SRB2 modding community for an idea I have. Basically, I would like to mod Ristar into Sonic Robo Blast 2. Here are the broad strokes of my idea:
Grab (executed by pressing the Spin button):
Ristar reaches out in front of him, about the range of the Electric Shield's detection.
Ristar crouches down. He can do a short somersault by pressing Jump while crouched. This allows him to get under spaces that need to be rolled under. This does not damage enemies.
Swim (Jump in water)
When Ristar presses Jump in the water, he can begin swimming. To rise, press Jump; to dive, press Custom 1; to move, hold your movement key. To swim faster, press Custom 2 rhythmically (think Super Mario 64). Ristar cannot drown.
General Information:
If Ristar grabs a spring and bounces off of it, he enters his Shooting Star mode. However, seeing as it does not sound like fun as it is in the original game, I decided to do something neat. According to the Wiki, there is a 2D mode of each level. So I came up with the idea that Ristar would enter that mode as if in a NiGHTS stage for 10-15 seconds. I am not sure if this is even possible, but if it is possible to do this, it would be the most awesome thing I have ever seen.
Anyways, I would like suggestions on how to proceed. I may or may not be buns at art-ing. You can see my right-face idle concept art. Any suggestions for LUA or how the duece I get my art to stop sucking? I use Libresprite.
Grab (executed by pressing the Spin button):
Ristar reaches out in front of him, about the range of the Electric Shield's detection.
- If Ristar grabs an enemy or monitor, he drags the enemy to him and damages them with a headbutt.
- If Ristar grabs a boss or that one Bigweld looking robot in Castle Eggman, Ristar sends himself flying towards said target, and damages them with a headbutt. Then he bounces off a little.
- If Ristar grabs a breakable surface, he breaks the surface with a headbutt. Bouncing off.
- If Ristar grabs a regular surface, he goes to the surface and bounces off. This can be chained together like in the source game to do a limited climb.
This can be done in the 8 vertical cardinal directions. The arms will be animated by a vector (procedurally generated, as such).

General Information:
- Ristar will have a jump that is slightly higher than Sonic. However, he will be rather slow, being more of a regular platformer than a Sonic-y character.
- Ristar cannot use Shields or Shield Abilities.
- Ristar has a max of 4 hitpoints (like in his original game). If he gets hit, he must collect 50 rings or a Chaos Emerald token to regain a unit of health. Once he reaches 0, he loses a life.
- Ristar stuns Metal Sonic in that final phase for longer than usual (because I learned from the Silver Add-On).
- If Ristar makes an empty loop in a NiGHTS stage, he gets a boost of speed.
