You only need a cheat gamedata if you need to test something in a certain level. (I really needed a permanent gamedata for 1.09.3 to keep NIGHTS there, because I had to test Mystic over and over again)

Of course, you should only get a full gamedata if you have unlocked everything yourself too.

Here's a pretty simple solution: Next time you get 100%, back up your gamedata.dat file. You'll be glad you did.
