Good character editors

I need to know a good editor to use besides Deepsea and XWE. I get error messages in XWE, and I can't install Deepsea due to not being an admin on my computer.

I get a LOT of errors with that. Also, I tried reinstalling it. -_-

The admin in question is my mom, and she doesn't like big files. I'll try, though.
EDIT: I got it. Now, how do I use it?

I think it was F7, actually. It's been a while since I checked, though; XWE truly is the only lump editor I'll ever need, since unlike Roboashura here, it rarely crashes (and when it does, it's usually me attempted to edit text files in it, when I can easily just use Notepad and get around it).

I love XWE. It's the best character editor that I've found, but I've also found that it's very weak at it's batch rename.

Hmm... Now that I've gotten rather good at Visual Basic, I *just* might try my hand at making my own character editor.
Heck, it's worth a shot, isn't it?

Now, where are the unoficial WAD specs? *googles*

Is it written in C or C++? I don't know squat about either, but I have a friend who's trying to get me into Qt, which I don't know at all, too.

Besides, I've already got a handy little program that'll extract any lump in a WAD file that I made in about an hour. Man, this'll come along real nicely. If I can get it done, that is.

I just got an idea. Can I make a backup of srb2.srb and save it as a wad, then open it up in a hex editor and change PWAD to IWAD? Will that work?
