girlpack - MITPACK FOR RING RACERS

Hey, welcome to Releases!
Just keep in mind though, your skincolours are defined in SOC, which as of v2.3 tends to cause desynchs in netgames when in use. This is not rule-breaking and is hopefully to be patched up in a future update. You may however, submit an updated file with these skincolors translated to lua. Which also as of v2.3, has had its warning rewritten as it doesn't disable any of the game's features on use, only providing a warning to the player in case the script adds anything.
I wish you luck on this!

mitsame updated girlpack with a new update entry:

Version 1.1

Hotfixes! Nothing huge.

There's now an included Lua variant for online-safe play. This version will be upkept so long as the bug persists in the game. Once it's gone, it'll be back to the one version with .soc color organization.

That said, files are a bit more optimized. All colors are now contained within one .soc/Lua file. This has no real bearing on players.

I've also added an extra color, Clash, to act as a more universal version of Mario's colors. This is based off of an old color I...

Version 2.0

Juri is here!

View attachment 124727
Alongside Juri is a new follower, Pride Flag, and several housekeeping fixes.

  • Paper Mario has seen a minor face lift. He's been better positioned in the kart, and his arms and legs layer correctly relative to the steering wheel (even if it doesn't make perfect paper sense). He also more visibly twists during glance and lookback.
  • Lucas' icons have been revised. They just looked a little weird before.
  • The...

Version 3.0

Girlpack 3.0 is here!

Morrigan, from Capcom's Darkstalkers, and Kumatora, from MOTHER 3, join the roster! This brings the total up to nine racers. Wow!

Furthermore, there's a few minor changes.

  • Morrigan's prefcolor, Succubus, has been added. It's a nice teal to lavender color ramp, reminiscent of the original Darkstalkers artwork.
  • Mario, Luigi, and M-Emblem (the colors) are no longer marked as...

Version 4.0

Ramona Flowers, from Scott Pilgrim, and Dr. Orpheus, from Venture Bros., join girlpack!

Some specific patch notes-

  • Ramona Flowers and Dr. Byron Orpheus join the race! Ramona's stats are 6/7, while Orpheus is 4/8.
  • Non-Binary Pride has seen a minor adjustment. Not for any particular reason, just so the contrast is a little higher. Each color of the flag takes up about a fourth of the palette...

Who voices ramona? And if it’s her canon voice actor is it from the anime or the movie?
It's her canon voice (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) from the anime.

Everyone in the pack uses their canon voices currently, aside from Kumatora, who uses Rainbow Mika's JP voice clips from Street Fighter V in the meantime.

View attachment 137772

Patch notes:

  • Cloud Strife (7/7), Birdo (3/7), Gameboy Wario (5/9), and Witch Kiriko (2/8) join the race! This is the biggest update since launch.
  • Furthermore, Cloud and Wario's prefcolors, SOLDIER and Loud, have been added as well!
  • Aerith and Tifa have both been redrawn from the ground up! Not...

Finally, both Ramona & Scott can race together! (I know they have different art styles, and it's a bit late to say that but my point still stands)

Have really loved this pack; but I do have one critique:

The FF7 reps (Mostly Aerith and Tifa) have color swapped parts that're hard to spot/notice during gameplay; for Aerith being just the ribbon and undershirt, and Tifa's being just the hair-tie, gloves, and shoes. You mostly only see them from behind, so the undershirt on Aerith is a bit hard to spot, and Tifa's gloves/shoes are near unnoticeable except for during spinout. I think making the hair change color instead would help a lot in terms of readability of someone's playercolor from a distance. (And be much more striking.)

Generally, I prefer the character's kart color to match up with what I consider to be the character's color. For what it's worth, Aerith's changecolor is her entire outfit, dress, jacket, and ribbon. The only things she's wearing that don't change are her boots and bangles. Tifa's are a little less stark, sure, but it's still as much of her outfit as I was able to fit in a custom color (skirt, gloves, boots, socks, gloves, and hair tie).

I'm not a big fan of using hair as the changecolor for characters in the way they do in vanilla for that reason- by this logic the kart colors would be brown and black, which feels kind of odd. In theory I could then bake in the colors onto the kart, but that feels less fun. There's not a lot of winning here, I think.

EDIT: Followup to this:
img-2024-08-20-13-07-49.png

After talking with some friends about this, I tried to add Tifa's hair to her changecolor. I had to adjust the color distribution on her outfit a little bit, but for the most part it's indistinguishable, I think. Wine was also tweaked to include the browns of her hair, so the red is a little lower contrast so as to try and maintain the original look.

This will probably be included in the next update- I'm still trying to figure out if I wanna release a hotfix with this and one or two other small tweaks I missed from the last major release, or just wait till the next. I'm kind of at a conflict of interest because Tifa as-is has really particularly done color distribution, but obviously making her hair change helps with visibility and gameplay. The latter will probably win out though, the differences are admittedly tiny.

Love this pack, but I seem to be having a problem where when I go to the character select the screen goes black and the game freezes? The issue resolves itself when I remove this specific addon. It must be incompatible with something else I have installed but the game's log doesn't seem to finish when this crash occurs. Any ideas as to how I can find the issue?

EDIT: I figured it out, it was actually because I had too many followers accumulated over all of the addons I've downloaded. After removing some the game is working properly. Apologies for the confusion.

You only need to use one. The DCFL version was intended to be used in netplay, but the DCF version is meant for local play. You can use the DCFL version for both, the game'll just give you a little popup about it.

There's a split in the first place because at the time there was a suspected bug that caused online games to desync if they're using mods that are formatted like the DCF version, but it seems to not be true. As of the next update, there will only be a DCFL version, since future characters will have features that require Lua scripts.

Any plans on porting the MK64 Pipe Frame template from SRB2Kart to Ring Racers? It gave the Mario Characters more flair, and it looks perfect for Ring Racers.
