Umm, this scandal has been around for MONTHS and it's not just food from China. And it's pretty much just dairy food from China that has melamine added to it. Alot of foods nowadays have melamine added to food because it enriches it with protein, but there have been some foods with excessive amounts of melamine, and it's poisoned tens of thousands of babies in China and at least four are dead. It's a shame that China's quality control measures aren't up to scratch. =/

*Bolded part*Ok........

Is it just me or is this like the same thing with the lead paint?
I wonder if anyone got sick from melamine on Halloween. >_>

No it doesn't, it just makes protein tests THINK there's more protein in something. That way, they can water down the milk and it'll still pass tests like it was not diluted.

I am going to be honest... I'm fearful of this. I live in Minnesota, one of the 20 states where specific products with high levels of Melamine were distributed. I eat a -lot- of thing that use at least some milk powder. There is no law or ordinance, permanent or temporary, that states if milk powder, egg powder, or any other questionable substance was imported or tested. For all I know, the Kraft mac 'n cheese I bought and ate over the last month could have poisoned me.

I could easily now have a toxic chemical floating around in my body, that will remain there for the rest of my life. Something that has cause people to develop kidney stones, which yield a pain that so great, that it has only been compared to the act of giving birth.

I have seen things on the news, on youtube, that have incited general disgust, disappointment, or political bloodlust. None of it has ever really put me in an immediate state of fear for my own well being. Until now. This is past the point of "not boding well", or whatever the hell thing you say to identify with a situation that you don't really figure affects you personally. This is beyond making some post of general anger, swearing, or claim of impending personal heroism.

The man in the video is right; this has been covered up, and VERY WELL. The damage has probably already been done, and we will feel the effects of it maybe weeks, or months after we have found out, but they will be no less dire, but the media will attribute it to other, menial things like the salt in our diets. Oh wait, they've already started doing that. And most people will believe it. Most people will never, ever see anything to contradict these claims made to divert attention, and if they do, will simply not believe them.

I looked through the related in Youtube. I found very, very few videos even related to this, and the combined views on the videos linked by Jeepers Media was under 1 million. Now think about this; this means that, as a whole, less than 1 in 300 Americans are actively aware that this is an issue, and that's assuming none of the views were international, or decided it was too long and didn't watch. There has been no major news coverage, no shitstorm like we saw with the pet food scandal, and if the sampling of people online that I know personally is any indication at all, the people who DID see this stuff, won't do anything about it. They won't write their congressmen, or state attorney, they won't do anything outside of watching the video, hell, a good portion won't even show others the video because it would seem offtopic, like advertising, or just simply for being a downer, or heaven forbid for being "old".

It took a media frenzy, and multiple deaths to get the FDA to issue a recall of the tainted pet food, and to recognize the danger of only specific retail products issued from China. We barely have a lethargic 300th of the American people who really know about this issue at best, and a government more deeply in the pocket of corporate affairs than before. Without more people knowing about this, talking about this, Standing up about this, not here, where it does naught but boost your own ego, but where it is seen by many and acknowledged by those who could change something about it, how could this possibly be resolved? How could it possibly be prevented from becoming any worse than it already has?

I honestly do not know, and I honestly cannot place myself at any height above the populace I just described for any action I have done in response to this revelation. Can you?

Will you?

I couldn't sit through much more than five minutes of it, and the fact that the guy sounded like he was about to cry throughout the entire thing made it really hard to watch.

All I can say is that, fortunately, with all of America pinching pennies right now, the adverse effects could be minimized. Other than that, well there was a legitimate reason why my mother went all out on getting a barn-full of animals capable of producing dairy and eggs.

I was too busy looking at the domo in the background to really pay attention to anything else..

I made topics about this on other forums, and I also emailed some family and friends warning them about this. This doesn't deserve to be ignored.

Prime,I eat Kraft mac and Cheese all the time. Its not going to have a serious effect.
Kraft was a Canadian company?*Wikipedia* so I don't think they put over dosed melamine. ;)

Well, I think the media is getting a bit more worried. Saw it mentioned on the Today show today.

Oh, and the FDA which was intentionally keeping this away from the public for the safety of the elections.

I actually saw a product recently in a catalog that was advertised as being made out of melamine: it was a plate. To suppress possible confusion, yes, it was for eating on. A scary thought, I suppose.
