Funny thing is, even since that story was written, the intro has not mentioned Angel Island OR Knuckles in the main Intro.

As I recall it, the original story didn't even have Knuckles in it. When he was added into the game, that little blurb was added to somewhat justify his presence.

The old cutscene of Deep Sea Zone to Mine Maze Zone on the history page also contains Knuckles. (In that scene he also has his hat from OVA)
