Finishing Ultimate mode help

I finally beat Ultimate mode after getting it two days ago and I didn't get the super cheats like startrings and startlives. I got the Black Emerald from Red XVI and after I exited I didn't get to keep it. Whats happening here?

After you get the black emerald, you have to go to CEZ2, and jump into the pool. Then finish the level....but there will be a surpize at the end of CEZ2

Get the black emerald, go to CEZ2, then press all the buttons. Then touch the pool in the center and get the armageddon shield. Go to the end, end then the surprise will be there, I think...

I had that same question when I first got the black emerald. Also, you should try the wiki first.
