This is something I've always wondered about the community consensus on (if such a thing exists in the Sonic fandom) ever since the pre-release period of Sonic Superstars. I'd been a fan of Fang as a character for a few years by that time, due in no small part to his portrayal in SRB2, so needless to say, I was excited to see him come back.

I was a bit put off by the name change from Fang the Sniper to Fang the Hunter at first - it came across to me as SEGA being overly cautious and removing even the most inoffensive gun references from their characters. The name has grown on me since then, though. I think it has a nice ring to it. Plus, even with his popgun, he's not exactly much of a sniper. (The Gunslinger ability is proof of that. :worry:) He strikes me as more the type to harass and overwhelm his targets rather than take them out efficiently with precision.

With my two cents out of the way, though, what do you think? Do you like the name Fang the Hunter, or will he always be more of a Sniper to you? At risk of getting on-topic in the off-topic discussion forum, do you think SRB2 should update to call him Fang the Hunter in the future?

It's nice SEGA's deciding to change his last name. Makes him more like a hunter to try stealing important items from people. It makes him stand out a little from being a Sniper who shoots with his popgun. Although, it would still make sense for him to be a Sniper. It's only what his characteristics and personality traits came to be. It's also shown in his appearance in Sonic The Fighters, where he shoots his gun as his secondary ability.

Although, it doesn't matter whether he is a Hunter or a Sniper. Both make sense of his characteristics and personality traits. I still prefer Sniper because ever since he was called that name (since Triple Trouble), it made sense that he was a harsh and willing enemy to Sonic's friends. It made him stand out from other previous villains (Not saying that any of the Sonic villains were horrible and disgustingly unoriginal villain types, It's only because making a video game villain is only difficult no matter what it takes for a video game designer to design such a villain).

In conclusion, whether you call him a Sniper or a Hunter. He's still at least both of them (considering he's only a harsh and willing enemy to Sonic's friends it would make sense for him to act like it from his characteristics and his personality traits). I would still call him that because the whole point of him being a Sniper is that he tries to catch the Chaos Emeralds, tries to defeat Sonic and his friends, and lots more (Also, I don't mind if the Sonic Team Junior updates SRB2 to call him Fang The Hunter in the future. I would at least add his original name in the character select description, similar to how the Sonic Superstars website did it).

I didn't even know that he was called Fang up until a couple years ago, it was always Nack the Weasel for me.

I think they explained the whole name thing in one of the comics that they were all aliases, Fang being a criminal and all.
