What causes a signal_handler ( ) : segment violation?

Anything. It's an unhandled exception. Just like "An illegal operation" box that most windows programs show when they crash.

I get that problem all the time while running SRB2. It's no big deal. Just restart it.

In 1.09, there are messages explaining when it actually knows what caused the SIGSEGV. Needless to say, though, it's just an error message it spits out if the game crashes and it doesn't know what to do.

Shut up, Jet. Our bandwidth is bad enough. Redownloading the game will not do ANYTHING to stop sigsegvs. It's a bug in the game, not the file.

ya didn't know that Jet? the segment_handler error is just an unknown error. Most of the time it just happens because either one of your values set by the command panel thing is to high or low, or one of the linedefs or sectors is just setup incorrectly in the level wad. Just avoid the error next time you start up the level.

JetKrazy, write the game to the CD when it`s packed. It`s much better than redownloading it(suggestion).
And I also wanted to ask , why doesn`t the game work from the CD?

I guess the game's just not programmed like that. If it was being sold as a full version game on CD, it would be a #1 hit!

It doesn't work from CD because it's trying to save data back there. It's the same reason you can do things like copy-paste the entire directory without losing anything. 1.09 will probably have a feature for allowing you to save data into your Application Data folder, which will let you do that or save different user accounts, at the price of losing the ability to copy-paste the directory.

Maybe we can get an actual install for 1.1 to set options like that...of course, that assumes we get off our asses ^_^()
