A better way that doesn't need copying and renaming, is this: When WA brings up the browse window for the IWAD, just put in the file name box *.srb, and press enter, and go to your SRB2 folder, and srb2.srb will be displayed there, then have WA use that.

Uh,

1. WadAuthor won't accept an unmodified srb2.srb as an IWAD.
2. WadAuthor doesn't modify the file you select as the IWAD. (Unless you open it for editing...)

Given the inexplicable stubborness of your copy of WadAuthor, all I can say is: ditch it, use DoomBuilder instead. While a441's guide will be trickier to follow since it's not really designed for that level editor, it'll still cover most of the basics, which apply for both editors (things like the thok barrier, the sky effect, why it's important to know what needs to be textured (DoomBuilder has this nice feature of letting you know what textures are missing for a linedef, so don't worry about it TOO much; I think WadAuthor does too, though I can't really remember), creating water and FOFs (DoomBuilder does it more or less the same way), and stuff like that). I believe I linked to the config on the Suggestions and Help forum very recently, so go look for that.

WadAuthor can be incredibly stupid. I personally strongly suggest never touching srb2.srb with WA, and creating a copy and calling it srb2.wad, so if you accidentally do something that alters it somehow, it doesn't matter at all.

Bow down to DoomBuilder. It is your master. YOU SHALL DO WHAT IT SAYS. BOW DOWN to your master!

Bow down to me, the person who will ban you if you don't stop being spammy in serious topics.

Heres another solution that's been said already but not completley explained.

1.) Make a copy of srb2.srb, then rename it to "srb2.wad"

2.) Open srb2.wad with a hex editor (Or notepad, or whatever. HEs always work better) and at the VERY top you should see "PWAD". Change it to "IWAD", then save.

3.) Use srb2_fd.wcf, and have it point to srb2.wad. You're all set

(Like Jason said, though, it may not work on newer SRB2 versions. Haven't had to do so in a while, so I dunno. You can always try.)

No, relaly, just don't bother. If WadAuthor's been not letting you use the thing for this long, I strongly suggest dumping it for DoomBuilder.

Good , I got WA working w/o doom2.wad. Now I can see what is good in WA.

*starts to think doombuilder is kinda cool* well if you all say so... *three hours later* i should change this to error right in middle o.... never mind thanks though cya!!
