Hi.

I'm relatively new to the Srb2 community and... well... completely new to editing, but after seeing some of the stuff some of the other members have made, I decided to take a look into the designing.
I hope someone can take a minute or two to give me a quick inntroduction.

First, and most highly important question - Does the level building process (I think I'd rather make stages then characters) require a significant or even a decent knowledge of programming beyond what the average person would know? Because if it does, I'll just stop right now, I'm not planning to learn some whole programming language just to make sonic stages.

And question 2 - assuming I should give this a try despite knowing next to nothing... what program is it you guys use to design new levels, and where can I download it.

That's it for now. Thanks.

Designing simple stages consists only of drawing rooms, setting their floor and ceiling heights, and picking textures. The deeper you dive, though, the more complicated and hard to interpret stuff becomes. Setting up a floating platform or a pool of water is easy, but trying to do stuff like the moving laserbeams in Egg Rock puts you closer to scripting, really.

Either SRB2 Doom Builder or SRB2 Workbench. Personally I'd suggest SRB2DB simply because the 3D preview mode really helps in a variety of tasks which would otherwise consist of editing text boxes.

You can find a download link in the sticky topic right on this very forum, and always refer to the wiki for any questions you might have before posting about it in the forums.
