This eco-friendly shooting game is compatible with the Wii Zapper.

In what can only be described as unexpected, Nintendo and Intelligent Systems (creator of notable series such as Fire Emblem and Advance Wars) have combined forces to create a WiiWare shooting game entitled 530 Eco Shooter (or, as a result of a Japanese play on words, Zero Trash Eco Shooter).

As the story goes, the Can Can aliens are stealing cans from a can factory on earth to use for their vehicles, and it's up to a middle-aged worker at the factory named Ossan to get the cans back. This is done by using a Recycle Cannon to turn the cans into "GE" energy, which can then be gathered in order to thwart the alien plans. "GE" also serves as ammunition, with your energy getting drained as you take hits from the alien invaders. Once your "GE" is gone, the game is over.

530 Eco Shooter supports the Wii Zapper and is best described as an on-rails shooter. You move through each environment on a vehicle, collecting energy by aiming at it and clicking Z. Check out the game's official site to see a trailer for this wacky concept.

Priced at 1000 WiiPoints, the game is set for release on November 24 and is rated Cero A.

By advance wars team? Maybe Luminous(?) might like this game. :)

Erm, cans? Aliens? Sounds kinda like that old Math Blaster game, where your mission was to capture the Trash Alien (or whatever his name was), whose ship littered the galaxies with cans and banana peels...

Such a ridiculous story concept is supposed to be reserved for only edutainment games...

What about Earthbound? It was 100% zany, 100% fun, and 0% educational.

This game actually sounds kind of interesting. But couldn't they make the blatant appeal to environmentalism subtle? Hell, the original Sonic the Hedgehog managed to do just that.

Earthbound wasn't about picking up trash, though. It was about saving the planet from becoming a gigantic insane asylum.

Also, heh. Sonic the Hedgehog versus Awesome Possum. Sonic was all "save the world from an evil fatty", while Awesome Possum was like, "Hey, look! Recycling emblems and environmental trivia!" Actually, I've never played or seen Awesome Possum being played. Probably won't be a very good game...

Agreed. Anybody with "Awesome" in their own name is probably lame.

I was watching the trailer to this green shooter, when I realized that you could have the very same game without the environmental overtones by having it be an extension of Hogan's Alley's Trick Shot mode. Maybe you could call it "Tin Can Madness".

Hey hey now, environmental games doesn't always equal to "bad" games. Just look at Sub Culture by Criteron (which was purchased by EA recently, R.I.P Criteron)

I really don't have a problem with elements of environmentalism in videogames, a bee. My beef is with games that focus on a single theme and shove it down the player's throat, whatever that theme may be. Those types of games are not only annoying, but they're also shallow, superficial, and poorly written. However, since we don't yet know what this new game will be like, I will admit that I was jumping to conclusions too quickly.

Like I said in my first post, there are games out there that manage to impart an environmental message, without that message being offensively overbearing. In addition to the Sonic games, I'd argue that Half-Life 2 falls into that category.

You know, When I read the title, I sorta expected something like this:

Looks like I was wrong.
Either way, It looks like another generic Light-gun shooter,
So I'll just stick to Wii Play.

If the eco friendly stuff would be replaced by zombies. This game could probably be a HOTD game and sell more.
