Not to be that guy, but I don't think anyone ever really FORCES peoples opinions for a GAME MOD. This just seems like a crazy claim.
Does anyone know where the claim that this is "an art community" came from?

You are accusing me of not reading, but I get the impression that you didn't actually read what I said here. My point was that code can be used to create art, and that this is what is taking place here. You are speaking about it as if the things people make here are not art, which they are.
You keep saying this but I still haven't seen an example of it, as you ignored me last time I asked if you had one. Lots of finger pointing, no evidence. As I've pointed out previously, I've not seen this behavior here personally, so I don't have anything to go off of this claim other than your word on it so far. As far as I have personally experienced in this community, "art" is referred to in the literal sense that creations made here are artistic in nature. The closest thing to your claim I am aware of is the rules on reusability, which are largely in place to protect creators here from having their own work effortlessly stolen and reposted by someone else without permission, especially if they are claiming to have done the work themselves.

they are forcing it upon you by making you think that you are wrong, and make others think that your way of thinking is wrong. if it isn't "force" then it most definitely is "manipluation" which i wouldn't have used that word but you forced my hand

and even if they don't the symptoms of treating it as such are very much present in this community
yeah but the code isn't technically yours either, since its being used to power a pre-existing game. if it was just purely your own original work then i wouldn't be against that

Again, you're making some very specific accusations here (and some rather serious ones at that) but you're not providing any examples of it. Who is doing this and when have they done it? At this point it seems like some kind of made up boogy man that is make believe oppressing you, so if it's not then bring it to attention with examples. Nobody is doing anything to stop you, but so far you've refused to and just make vague, broad sweeping accusations towards the community in general.
If the code that you write isn't yours then who's is it? Why should individual people who work on a game be credited for the specific work they do, but modders shouldn't despite effectively doing the same thing? If I were to make my own sprites and then mod that into SRB2 with a unique playstyle and everything, is that not my own art just because SRB2 already existed before I made it?
Transformative art is still art.

I've only ever referred to the art people make as art in the sense that this is what it is, not as a measure of status but substance. Not only are you refusing to provide a real example of what you are describing, but you're also partaking in false witness against me when anyone capable of reading can plainly see I have not done this.
since i feel ur just gonna accuse me of accusing you of manipluating people due to lack of specification, i will specify, you are treating mods as the mona lisa as mentioned before, and arguing with me about it. i am not accusing of you manipulating people because we are arguing right now. when i say "manipulate" i mean basically everywhere else, like the os. manipulation is still manipulation wether it is for good intentions or for bad intentions.

You are dramatically overreacting in this post. I didn't "win" anything, it wasn't a competition. Additionally, I can't imagine you'd be in danger of getting banned just for having a contrary viewpoint about something. In this post in particular it looks like you are trying to get yourself banned, but I still don't think it's going to happen. Maybe some manner of slap on the wrist, but I don't see anything outright bannable here.

It is clear that this topic makes you very upset, and I can understand that. It is a bit disheartening to see a game you like being labeled in a fashion you don't like. But what I cannot accept is the clear distraught and sadness that were in your recent messages, I don't feel like you should be asking to be banned, over something so trivial as this
I say, you should be able to call this community whatever you see fit. At the end of the day, the "art community" label is technically correct anyways.
So, this message probably wouldn't help much (considering id be dragging you back into the thread) But I do not like the mindset of "winning" or "losing" a argument like this, due to both sides being correct.

i guess i just don't like the community taking itself more seriously than it should, which is hypocritical of me considering i am taking it just as seriously, and i probably shouldn't take it as seriously either.
wether you think it is taken too seriously or not is up to interpretation i guess. i agree that mods are art, but i think a better term is "a work of art." but i don't mod for this game anymore like i used to, so wether my opinion is valid is up to you at this point. and i will admit, i was overreacting.
idk, arguing this particular topic maybe isn't the best use of my time. probably not gonna participate in these kinds of threads anymore, mostly cuz i do have things i probably should be doing instead. it was somewhat fun i guess.

Art is art, regardless of the tools that are used to create the art. From paints and brushes to the written word. If one is creating something using the tools they have, then it's art. Indeed there are forms OF art, such as code, spriting, mapping, sound design, musical compositions etc, but they do fall all under the broad term of art. One can indeed be specific about the art they create, but they're all defined as an art form.
Much of the staff, as in virtually all members of staff, believe in what themselves and the community does is creating art and therefore all believe that each creation that we all make deserve respect in some form. Even if you don't necessarily like it and you are indeed allowed to make a mature and critical take on whatever is made.
But it's still art. They still took the time to create the thing like it's definitely still an art regardless of anything lol.
What you seem to miss @Bandder is that nobody is using the word "art" in any way other than...the literal definition of the word. Like just tell Google to define art and it will tell you it's a noun that means "the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination" and "the various branches of creative activity". Using the word in this way isn't unusual in any way at all.
So acting like there's any other definition or that we need to lower the definition outside of what it is as if the word is some kind of golden word while also getting snippy with others is, to put it frank, really fucking silly.
I don't really want to see you going off like that again so I am going to ban you for the time being. Acting like this sucks, man.

I usually don't talk on the MB but I feel like throwing in my two cents and saying that while I personally find it weird that they're calling SRB2 an "art community" when nobody else does, I completely understand why.
I'm not an admin and I'm both new and inactive so don't quote me on this but considering that modding is most of the reason why SRB2 is as popular and active as it is and making levels can be very straightforward compared to a lot of other games, at least in my experience, I completely get why calling the SRB2 community an "Art Community" more so than other communities makes sense, even if it does sound a little egotistical
Most of this community, at least to me, is about sharing, what else, mods (which are art) that people have made, and when they aren't sharing art, they're talking about said art, whether it be about how a mod is good or giving criticisms about how a mod is bad. Art, as far as I can tell, is the driving force of this community.
