I was also watching Nazo Unleashed: Pt. 1, on Newgrounds (I was bored). It could also occur if Sonic channeled the negative energies of the Chaos Emeralds.

Get a Super Sonic sprite and edit it to black with a purple Outline.

You now have a Dark Super Sonic.wad

and take out the eyes (hmm i might make a wad of that i dunno?)
