custom texture/things/enemies

i've been wondering how to make custom things,textures and enemies, what tools do you use, and how do you make them?
 
For starters, check Shadowhog's topic at the top of the Archives forum for textures.
 
For textures, I usually use XWE. Shadow hog post a way to Make custom textures and flats and for custom things (which include enemies), I use SSNtails' SOC editor. However, I'm not going to go into actually making custom things since it's pretty complex.
 
i'll be starting the custom textures and (hopefully) they should work for my level i'm making
