Contest Winner?

People post ratings for the levels from 0 to 10. All those ratings are averaged together to make a general 0-to-10 score for the level, and the levels in each division with the highest scores win the contest.

Well, if you don't feel you're ready, you don't have to enter the contest. There's never an obligation, even if you are a known level maker. If you really want to enter, try practicing, and look at the techniques previous contest winners have used. Perhaps ask for constructive criticism in the Editing topic. All these things can improve your level design skills. When you've got a really good level put together and are confident that people will like it, enter it in the contest.

By the way, there is no contest division for character WADs, so your character making skills aren't relevant to the OLDC. But it wouldn't hurt to practice that too, in the same manner as the levels.

You know a few years ago I did win a character contest because I'm the only one who submitted something as promised. I think I deserve a shiny title.

There's the key--A few years ago. You only get a shiny title if you won the latest contest.

Plus, there is no character division in the OLDC. Maybe that's the reason nobody else submitted anything.

Yeah, like we need mountains of character WADs further complicating the process of joining servers on the MS, regardless of quality or uniqueness. It would certainly help encourage the creation of more unique characters, not just their beauty...but we need levels more, otherwise character WADs are just useless pieces of eye candy. "Wheeee, I can run through Bland Land as Amy Rose and guide her through this glitchy mess, epic!"
And this is besides the fact that characters can demand lots of time in development. I doubt most people would be able to finish their's in time, or every contest would have to be held three months apart from each other.

Also, I believe the OLDC applied to levels only, last I checked. >_>
