Confusion about custom racers

hello, i want to make a custom character but this character will not have a kart, and its a bit confusing to me do i just have to draw the racer on the bottom part of the template or is there something else to it?

Just erase the kart, and draw the character on the template like normal from there.
But be careful, because if you're using kartmaker it will automatically apply dithering effects that might not look right on a kartless character.
