Character Creation Experimentation Help

With my race level on hiatus for now, I'm currently experimenting with character wads in an attempt to find a combination I like that isn't too overpowered, before I start making a fully custom character. One of my experiments is a higher jump height, but I seem to be having a problem. The "jumpheight" variable doesn't seem to affect gameplay one bit, and the SRB2 wiki is mysteriously missing that entry. Is it broken, or am I setting the variable wrong? (It's currently at 200)

I've even opened up a HMS123311 wad I downloaded a while back but it didn't shed any light on the matter. In fact I didn't see anything in there that even resembled HMS123311's abilities. Did those get hardcoded into SRB2 or something?

Any hints, tips, or answers would be highly appreciated.

Plus the fact that HMS123311's abilities are inside of JTE doesn't help for that matter either. Simply leave the variable at 100 like Draykon said and that's it.

That's too bad. I was hoping for a high jump ability that could be followed by a short glide. Ah well.

I have a new question now. What is the format used by SRB2 sprites? I've looked through the Wiki and all it mentions is that custom graphics have to follow a certain palette.

Okay. Thank you for the help.

I have one last question for now. What are the current views on Advance-style sprites? In my past work with sprites, those were the most common medium I used, and although I wasn't very good at "from scratch" sprites, I was pretty good at cutting and reassembling.

For example, here's one of my earliest:

(Sure, my character's not much more than an edit, but I've become attached to the design.)

Further examples:

An advance warning on what I could expect as a reaction would be appreciated.

So in this case, if I make the character, I should keep it to myself, right?

Maybe if I start with Advance as a placeholder, and then slowly replace each with custom SRB2 style sprites, after which it should be worthy of release...

Anyways, thanks. You've all been very helpful.
