Casual thread about an idiotic person not knowing how to start making characters

Other people who don't know how to start making them aren't idiotic, but I kind of am. I've tried doing it, with a tutorial, and a broken character template. I got Slate, but it might not be the version what most people use. How do I start out? I want to try making a character who doesn't really use any complex lua, just the SS_Skin things or something, I don't know.
Update: I decided to first work on sprites. I might make some sort of thread about the mod I might make, Idk. I'll do some more research on the part of giving it moves and stuff.
