If you immediately jump off a spike sector just as soon as you land on it, you can get by completely unharmed. This doesn't happen to the other damage types because they're not programmed to hurt specifically when touching the floor.
Incidentally, this worked fine in 1.09, where spike damage was just like any other damage effect, and hurt on floor touch when applied directly to a sector, or within a certain area when applied to an intangible/swimmable FOF. This worked great for making wall spikes (small FOF with spike damage in front of the physical, solid spikes).
