Can I beat the base game on a save with mods?

I want to complete the base game with mods, but it always gives me the message "modified games can't unlock extras" and won't let me open a save. Is there any way to get around this?

You can complete the game with mods but on a no save file. If you use a regular save file in a modified game it either won't save or unlock anything.
