Blinking screen?

hey am new to this game and when i first played it it kept on blinking on..off...on...off i mean black then it shows up for like 2 sec...black again.
any tips on how to get rid of it?

Your monitor may not support the resolution, when it blinks on, navigate to Options -> Video -> Video mode and change it to something lower or higher.
