I've noticed lately that many of my friends have been impersonated by noobs. I think we need to find some kind of system otherwise we won't know who to trust anymore. Although most of the time it's obvious who's a fake, a person that doesn't know that person might see a fake and think its the real person. I think that if you see a fake of someone of yourself, post it here along with as much information as you can give like for example, How they acted towards other's, what time did you see them (give your time zone please), and how do you know its a fake. although we shouldn't blame everyone we see we should still be cautious of who is in a server with you that looks strange.

That's where you're wrong, mr.Hybrid. I've seen and heard multiple times that there was another dude who take names. I know 2 such dudes, one is my friend, and they even were featured in youtube videos. If you don't believe me, i can link you to those videos.
I don't know how much people I told this to. But ill say it on the forums and maybe people will understand.
SRB2 don't have a copy righted name system on this game. There no way to tell who it is. Nor you can stop them. If players choose to take someone else name for there own entertainment reason. Then they will do it. And they wont be banned from the MS at all.
If you can host a server you find out who is who by looking at there IP. Its quite simple to find out that way. And you can banned the player who is taking names as well.
Edit: And if you can't host. Then do what ThunderNova said. Ask the player a question that he or she will only know.

I had my name use by most players on SRB2. And yet it don't bother me at all. The so called "fakers" will do nothing more then just take a name and try to act like that same player and just mess with them. They can't do anything so why worry about it?

Alright, but it just bothers me to see some punk come into my server pretending to be my friend, then taunt me out once I call him on it. Although I do understand that banning him from my server would be easy, but he could still go to other servers and pretend to be me, or my friends, which is what truely bothers me.

Well, I've never changed my name to that of another user, but I do sometimes change my name to that of Sonic chars on a whim (usually Tikal or Knux). I don't really think that counts... Honestly I don't care if someone tries to impersonate me and be a jerk. Trust me, the people I'm close to would know something is up, and even if someone got banned with my name, they don't have the same IP as me, so they're only hurting themselves...

I really wish people on SRB2 would stop stealing names because then the real person would have his life ruined because what the other did. I mean, here's what happened to me.
This is absurdly over-dramatic. I am probably the most impersonated person on the master server and I have absolutely no issues "ruining my reputation" or anything of the sort.
The master server does not have a name registration system and we are not planning to add one. This means that if you REALLY care that the person you're talking to is the real deal, you're going to have to check their IP or ask a question that an impersonator isn't going to know. The thing is, this really isn't important for just playing the game, and only really matters if you're trying to use the master server as a social hangout, something we allow but do not support.

No, I'm Hybrid. I didn't steal anyone's name (I'm a main target of this "faker"). Once again, HMS is doing all this by himself and can change IPs at will to bandodge.

Well, if you have witnessed many of the fakings, and seen my MB profile, you could guess it. But i have to say that my awfulness has faded over time. At the first time, i just trolled almost everyone i've seen, and if someone banned me, i tried my best to make their srb2 life miserable, like, fake them to do bad stuff, crash their servers and such... I simply could join with another IP, but no, i needed to teach them a lesson. It didn't matter for me if there were innocent people in those servers. Some times, the host|admin banned the real person whilst i was faking him, thinking i am the real. Some other times, when i took a name of somebody, people thought i'm another person faking them when i'm really not. Honestly, i can't even count how many people i tricked on srb2. But recently, one circumstance has made me think of why i'm doing all this. I didn't stop trolling completely, but now i try to do this only to those people who are just downright awful. Like, winning against someone once and start laughing at them, saying they are noob, loser etc, saying things that are overkill for other people... I can also take name for the purpose of spying or offendless fun, like, take a newbie's name when he's in a server and say funny things, misspell a name in a wacky way... Anyway, since i was such a douchebag most of the time, i can't blame people for hating me. =P
Absolutely agreed.
And as for Zip: Trolling people and stealing their names is always childish, no matter what your reason might be.
