"All In A Day" Original Level Pack WIP Thread

El-fire

new PFP by Aquavine, thanks bud!
2024 Collaborator
You may know me from such hits as the guy who has tried making a Misty Lake remake like 3 times now (might become 4), the guy who made another Emerald Coast SRB2 port, another green hill level, that weird level pack based off the first level of SRB2 with a green haired woman that everyone simped for.

well after mostly making levels based off other people's stuff, I wanna make my own thing, my own Sonic game if you will. so I bring you.

Sonic The Hedgehog: All In A Day.

A level pack made out of the desire to have more full campaign level packs. I got a whole campaign planned out and have already made a few levels so lets show those off huh?

Falling Forest Zone.
the first zone of the pack that's very GFZ coded which was kinda my intention. a simple first two acts that shows off the main mechanic of this whole level pack which is momentum thanks to the 10-Line momentum script (slightly modified by my friend Aquavine so that you actually slowly lose that extra speed over time so it's not entirely uncontrollable) where when you run down slopes you get some extra speed and this speed allows you to run over water or take shortcuts if you can keep up the pace.

this zone was actually inspired by my first attempt at making my own Sonic Fan Game in LittleBigPlanet3 and it was even 3D-ish. the first zone was always planned to be a forest being cut down by Eggman but I could never stay focused enough to finish it.

Scorched Stronghold Zone.
The second zone that's a little more difficult than the first. This one's more Marble Zone and of course Castle Eggman coded. an abandoned castle on an island that has become over run with lava! yet is still very lush despite that. Act 2 is still being worked on but I'm very happy with this zone so far!

this zone was inspired by some SRB2 level pack ideas I had of a Bad and Good Future versions of the base SRB2 campaign. Good Future Castle Eggman was a highlight in my mind as a very lush abandoned castle with no enemies and just cool vibes but of course since this level pack is supposed to be an actual campaign, dangers are now included but I think do give this zone more of it's own identity.

there will be 5 zones with a 6th secret zone for getting all the chaos emeralds making for about 18 levels for the main campaign. I dont have much worked on for those at the moment, just music choices and ideas written down and a draft of the first act of zone 3 that I can show off here.

Waving Waters.
a 2-layered zone with the top half being running on water, beaches, and ships with a lower half under the water running along the seabed.

there are also some bonus levels planned too as single levels. there are 4 planned at the moment but there may be more idk we'll see.

It will probably be awhile till I make updates to this thread but I hope you like what I got so far. I will probably be asking for feedback sometimes and whatnot. this is my first time making a level pack that isnt just the same level copy and pasted with a new look so many things are going to change like the title since I still havent really settled on it but this name makes sense for how the levels progress for now so yeah.

alright cya at some point!

The pack looks promising so far.

Considering how solid your previous addons have turned out in terms of graphics, layout, and gameplay, this will be an interesting pack to watch.

I noticed you mentioned Little Big Planet and I wonder if you ever tried making a Sonic fangame in Dreams when it was one of the big titles for the PS4 (which unfortunately wound up like many other 'game making' games in that it made a big splash at first but ultimately had a short shelf life). Good thing SRB2 can't just go EOL like the console titles.

I couldnt really get into the game making of Dreams unfortunately. I was so used to LBP's simplicity that It made it hard for me to get into Dreams, not to mention the controls I just couldnt really get used to. The game is definitely meant to be played with the move controllers if you wanna actually make stuff which I didnt have. or a mouse if they ever actually got the chance to put the game up on PC as well. But the only thing I tried making was an edit of one of the first Sonic models on Dreams to have the gauntlet from Black Knight. I really like Sonic And The Black Knight if you couldnt tell lol.

Of course the castle level (my favorite level theme) is going to be the most complicated level so far lol

finally started working on the second left path again so the basic layout of Scorched Stronghold Act 2 is almost done. I started working on the second left path before but I guess I did something wrong cause UZB had a terrible crash and it didnt even give me a back up to load from so that kinda killed my motivation for a bit. It's okay though cause I think this idea is better than the first try.

I also wasnt sure how I'd say this without some progress to show so I hope this counts. so I've decided when I finish Scorched Stronghold acts 2, 3, a single special stage, and an unlockable bonus level that I'll release a playtest demo here to get some feedback on how I'm doing and stuff. I will say more details about it when the day actually comes but ye. I think these two zones will be enough of a good taste for how the full campaign will go.

I also just realized I forgot to mention there will be custom special stages on the first post so uh here's what I got of the first one lol
srb20088.gif

If you couldnt tell, they're heavily inspired by Cyber Dimension Realm's Special Stages with automatically running forward of course. except they wont really be based off the campaign since I dont actually have enough zones for 7 special stage themes so I'm thinking they're going to be kinda similar stuff to the campaign just with some random original stuff thrown in as well. and also inspired by FNF instrumentals cause that's the music I've decided I wanna use for these lol uh the first one uses Senpai Pico Mix if you're wondering. I love FNF alot :]

should probably post more about this but tbf I havent done much. well I finished the layout for Scorched Stronghold Act 2 but I dont wanna show anything from it since it was a small addition and I kinda wanna save it for the demo.

In the meantime I guess, I started working on a way later boss cause I couldnt get the battle ideas out of my head.
"what If I did The-Hell Metal Fight again but with an electric pillar instead-"
srb20058.gif

This is for a zone that hasnt been started yet so the textures and colormap may change but I'm pretty happy with it. I think it fits in where it's supposed to go :]

also can I say why I like putting a pillar in a Metal fight so much? it's so he doesnt take forever to bounce off the far walls if there's something in the middle for him to bounce off. and there's also decorative pillars so hopefully he doesnt take years to beat lol.

the thing about me is I like to try to keep some stuff about my SRB2 mods as secret as possible cause I like for people to experience the cool stuff themselves but it makes keeping a WIP thread updated a little difficult but I'll try anyway.

so I've gotten back on decorating Scorched Stronghold Act 2. it's been a little slow since I'm not much of an interior decorator, even if it is a abandoned castle. also the amount of areas to decorate is kinda overwhelming me a bit but i'm trying to push through it when I can.
srb20397.png

srb20400.png

also this level is making me think of getting the lavaproof rings mod on this level pack. this is the second zone afterall and it seems a little cruel to completely destroy your rings once you lose them on lava (mostly because of one section at the end of this level but I dont wanna show it cause it's too cool to spoil, unless I already did idk I forgor). so I'll think about that I guess.

I feel like I should show more but I dont really got more, at least stuff that isnt spoilery to me. Idk I just feel like I gotta keep this thread somewhat regularly updated so it's not totally forgotten by me.

Yup! Well it's just indoor areas I have trouble with. I can do outside stuff pretty well since it's just placing nature stuff randomly but I can't be as random with indoor man made structures. Though i can at least be random with the rubble and nature taking over the castle which is nice.

alrighty so I didnt make as much progress on mod cause I've been busy with other personal stuff but that doesnt mean I didnt do anything.

so Scorched Stronghold act 2 is almost done just really need to get to finish decorating so there's not much to show but it is almost done, I swear!

and we now have a full Special Stage ready for the Playtest demo!
srb20072.gif

complete with an FNF instrumental for maximum vibes :]

now as I believe I said before for the Playtest demo, I wanted 2 full main campaign zones, one special stage, and one bonus level. for that last one I have to decide which of the bonus levels I've drafted up to finish and put into the demo. I had originally had made my decision but now I'm torn between it's hot sister so I thought maybe I'd let y'all choose.

do you want Heaven?
srb20406.png

or Hell?
srb20407.png

sorry little timmy

which ever one y'all want the most, I'll focus on finishing up for the demo. one is focused on exploration and the other is "hellish" Sonic gameplay. hope that helps.

and no these totally dont have any relation to similar looking levels from a completely different level mod, you're crazy-

hey y'all wanna see my impression of Scorched Stronghold Act 2?
*ahem!*
oOoOo I'm Scorched Stronghold Act 2! I'm more complicated than the other levels even though I'm only in zone two but that's because I decided I was a castle but not just any normal castle, a ruined castle so the creator has to decorate more! mEh!
...
*ahem!* anyway-
uh I think Scorched Stronghold Act 2 is finally done. All decoration as far as I can tell is complete, everything should be accounted for. which just leaves Act 3 and the Bonus level, yay! here's some screenshots of course.

I bet ya cant tell I love ruined castles

and now for the results of the question I posed to y'all in the previous post. I asked y'all which Bonus level do you want me to focus on finishing for the demo and the votes are in, it's Hell Fire! (that's the name of the Hell level) it won by land slide! okay no one actually answered but Hell Fire is more like a Sonic level and I got more ideas for it at the moment so I'm doing it anyways lol

here's a GIF of that, it's being worked on so yay!

I have finished all I needed to finish for a Playtest Demo. I did have to cut the bonus stage I had originally wanted to include cause I felt it would be a little too much for a Playtest Demo and besides I could use the feedback I get on this and apply it to the bonus levels.

this demo includes 4 main campaign levels, 2 boss levels, 1 special stage, and 26 emblems to collect!
this level pack makes heavy use of 10-Line momentum which uncaps how much speed you can gain but you can turn it off using the "custommomentum" console command, it accepts: "on/off". I strongly recommend to keep it on unless you're playing as a character that has their own custom momentum. having it off will not save when you exit the game so you'll have to turn it back off next time you open the game if you wanna keep it off for whatever reason.
your save will not carry over to the final level pack for it will use a different .dat. this is because the original is using the placeholder name but also in case I change anything about emblems or unlocks so nothing breaks or something.
if you check the Credits text file in the PK3, you can see all the credits for everything I used that isnt mine but are open assets or stuff some friends made or what music I used. soundtest is also unlocked so you can see more music credits. all the level pack's tracks are at the bottom.
and i'm not releasing this in the addons section cause I dont feel comfortable sharing unfinished stuff there even if it is technically a finished demo. this is purely for playtesting and feedback purposes.

I'm releasing this demo mostly for feedback since this is my first original level pack and I want this to be good so here's some things for feedbackers.
this will be a 5 zone level pack so dont except a big adventure or anything. I had trouble thinking of the final zone so yeah any more is out of my scope.
I want the levels to be a little short since I've noticed alot of the level packs I think are cool but dont like revisiting for whatever reason all have one problem: the levels are too long. for single acts it's understandable but for full 2 act zones it's a bit much so I hope to have a steady increase in level length as the pack goes on but of course not too long.
this level pack is built around speed inspired by my love for the boost games just without the boost and instead relying on momentum gaining.
I want to try and have a steady increase in difficulty as the levels go on so the beginning will be easy while end will be harder.
I am a one man show and I only really know how to make levels so complex custom objects are out of my scope.

okay with all that finally out of the way!
I hope you enjoy this little snip-bit of All In a Day.
there will be no more demos after this cause this level pack's kinda short so dont wanna give you everything in a "demo" lol.

okay enough talking, have fun and dont forget to leave feedback if you have any! :]

The pack is starting well; the only suggestion is that the super sneakers might very well be a golden monitor since you are only on act 2 of the first zone anyway (and getting enough momentum in that specific section to really get across the water might be tricky otherwise).

The Sonic 3D Blast boss music is a nice touch, don't hear too much of that anywhere.

Fair enough, thank you for the feedback!

Also I didn't use any 3D blast music I don't think. The boss music I used is from Sonic Colors

Well, the music started out in a similar way as far as I can recall. I never played Sonic Colors myself, but I do have the original cartridge for Sonic 3D Blast for the Genesis. Perhaps a portion was reused when the game was made because the opening note definitely appeared similar.

not much of an update I think but my sister dared to suggest the idea of hard mode variants and I'm not fully sure if I'm actually going to do it but I do wanna at least play with the idea

her words were specifically encore mode levels so that's why I decided the level would be in Fall which would make it: "Fall-ing Forest" :D
