(Again?) How do I put custom music on SRB2?

I was learning how to use SLADE and I thought about adding custom music to my STSCA Demo 2.3 update, but even after reading several wikis and tutorials, no matter how hard I try, I can't get it to work. I've asked about this before, but I still don't understand and haven't been able to figure it out.

First you need your music to be in the .OGG file format. You can use Audacity to accomplish that. Next you make a marker in your Music folder in your PK3 and call that marker "O_*song name here but preferably 4 letters long*" then in the level header, just put the name of the song excluding the "O_" and you should be good.

Example:
Music Folder: O_GFZ1
Level Header: Music = GFZ1

Thanks man, it helped a lot, it worked!

actually it doesn't have to be ogg, it can be many other formats listed here: https://wiki.srb2.org/wiki/Sound_and_music_tutorial#Accepted_sound_formats

One issue with that... UNNECESSARY FILE SIZE BLOAT!!! :dramahog: .Ogg’s with around 64/kbps bitrate are great for making whole mappacks with multiple stages or zones only 10 to 20mb’s max. 2 minutes of a Ogg like that is around 800kb’s - 1.5mb’s.

It’s always good to care about optimization, because 5 stage map pack having 20mb’s is kinda bleh personally...

vgm/vgz's are probably the smallest music formats that srb2 supports, but they don't work like your average ogg or mp3

I think my file is 23MB with 8 levels and 7 custom songs, from what I've seen.

And how do I do it for MIDI music?

I’d say that this is pretty good I think. And for midi files you need to name the filie D_ instead, and it needs to have the same name as the O_ file to work.

Does it have to be the same file?
