About the character limit...

Before I start, I just want to say that I'm grateful for the deep library of custom characters for Kart and Ring Racers. But I just want to know, why is there a character limit for both games? Is it just a Freeslot thing? Could the game not handle so many characters? Is there a risk of conflict if we raised the character limit? I know that characters takes up sounds on the Sound Freeslots, but can they be played like, on the skin itself? (It sounds stupid but what gives) So what to you guys think if we remove (or at least raise) the Character Freeslot.

yeah id imagine its a "freeslot" limit of sorts, since skins are indexed with numbers, so thats why kart and drrr have 255 skins available. srb2 only has 32 right now
 
Ohhhhhhhh that explains why I've stopped seeing some characters in games. I just load in too many of em. Time to be selective of what I load up I guess
 
Last I checked, the number literally cannot exceed 255, as trying to raise the skin count any higher would actually break the game. I'm not much into coding, so I couldn't tell you what breaks and how bad it can get, just that its critical enough that it is unlikely to go any higher.
 
I hope the limit for DRRR gets removed entirely tbh.
After seeing that and this post, it more like sounded that Kart Krew was listening to me. Bringing up the character/skin limit to like 1024 sounds very extremely good to me, after how the base characters took up a quarter of the 255 limit. Weird how Ring Racers is going to get all the cool freeslot expansion stuff before SRB2 did.

It's Version 2.4 we're talking about, I'm not sure about that whole thing. But it might be official, who knows?
Isn't 2.3 the recent version at the moment, or are we talking about the future update to the game? Kart Krew Dev's page had it as 2.3 since May. It was this very thread that told me there's a 255 limit currently that lead to that post you linked when all I did was expand on an answer on knowledge I've known up to this point.

We're talking about a future version of Ring Racers, 2.4, like I told you. We're still at the 255 limit as of right now. But the next version will change the limit (I hope). Take it as a gain of salt.
 
Alright, just wanted to be sure because that would be exciting if its true. I don't tend to take rumors seriously until it's been officially confirmed. Fingers crossed in any case.

There's a merge request on the Ring Racers' Github. Not sure it'll be merged or not, but from what I got from it, it seems like an online game with it can run perfectly with no clear issues and/or whatnots (aside for ping and connection problems, but neither of them are related to that expanded limit).
