A little help on making Sprites for a PK3

I'm a little confused on how this works. I'm viewing other PK3s and WADs and see that they're all in black and white, and I know how both SRB2 and SRB2 Kart work, they use the information and translate that into a color palette, but is there a way I could learn this color palette? It's for a completely custom character I'm making from scratch.

TL;DR, The coloring is weird for sprites and I want to know how they work.

The reason they're black has to do with the color palette thats displaying (Existing/Global)
If you're in Slade, the color palette can be changed on the top right corner and select Sonic Robo Blast 2 (Don't choose the legacy one if you're planning to make a mod for the recent version). Then, they should look normal but the parts where it changes colors in game is displayed with the green color. Here's an link for a tutorial of how to make your character :

https://wiki.srb2.org/wiki/Custom_character_tutorial/Sprites

This tutorial could help you do your mod and show you recommended programs to sprite. And also, if you want to make a kart character, the color palette SRB2 (Legacy) is the one since it still uses the 2.1. Engine. Here's a link to a tool that can help you create one :

Hope this helped you :> If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Ohhh I see so the green acts as a sort of chroma keyer and all other colors aren't affected by changing the main color?
