Kart Characters are in a special situation, due to users often making giant collections of characters, either packed in one bundle, or scattered about in separate releases. We have made the decision to restrict everyone to one topic, with any separate topics being grandfathered in. Since kart character topics can be somewhat difficult to grasp for newcomers, I've constructed this topic to assist in Kart Character pack creation, both for what is required, and what is recommended. You'll also need either WAD2PK3 or convertpk3. This guide will use WAD2PK3 since it has a GUI, while convertpk3 uses a command line interface. Either one will do. You will also need SLADE, a Doom editor.

Making a Solo Character

Say you're only interested in making this one character you are passionate about, or you're not ready to fully commit to an entire pack of characters, and just wish to start with one. Simply release it under your character's name, follow the usual submission rules and filename conventions, and submit your release. While WAD files are fine for solo characters, we strongly recommend using either WAD2PK3 or convertpk3 to convert them to a PK3, which lowers the file size and makes it easier to add more characters to your pack later. Do not put PK3s inside .zip archives, since PK3s are already compressed.

Making a Kart Character Pack

A Kart Character pack is a PK3 file with multiple Kart Characters inside it. To add multiple characters into one PK3, use SLADE to look into your converted files, and you will find folders such as "sound" and "skins". Place all your characters' folders in one, under their own names. For example, make a Skins folder, then make a folder inside it with your character's name, then paste the contents of their own Skins folder inside. Repeat the process with any other folder types. Optionally, you may create a separate zip to include all of your character's individual PK3 files, so that users may upload what characters they want, and leave out who they don't, to fit them within SRB2 Kart's 128 character limit. Don't forget to follow the required filename conventions.
