This is a response to the following post by SMS: http://ssntails.sepwich.com/mb/viewtopic.php?p=147878#147878

In the interests of not derailing someone else's topic with a bunch of stuff that has nothing to do with his level, I'm posting the following in a completely new topic.

I have still to see a fair match in a level with auto ring.
Yeah, under your screwed up definition of fair.

Super mystic sonic said:
Never had a underwater battle in Saphire falls where 1 person totally rules the place because of auto ring?
I have shot the person with automatic underwater MANY times with a red ring, taken his automatic ring, and proceeded to kill the player because they used up all the rings he had. Automatic has PLENTY of weaknesses, just like Rail. Stop whining whenever anyone uses a weapon ring. Might as well just call the rings overpowered. For SMS to like your match stage, make sure it contains zero rings at all. Only the Inferno Shield can be used to damage the opponent.

The battles won't be at those long stretched areas with lots of freedom in movement all the time.
And the intelligent players will try to force their opponents into areas where they have restricted movement. I haven't played this map, but that tactic has been great since the game was created.

I'll always set the settings to be as fair and fun as possible. Weapon rings off, itemrespawn 10, boxes random with invincibility and armagedon off, and that kinda crap.
What the hell, man? Itemrespawn 10? There goes the ENTIRE game balance RIGHT there. That is not "fair" or "balanced", that is overpowered, even with the Invincibility and Armageddon off. Just camp the monitor until you get Attraction, and kill everyone like people did in the old days before we fixed it.

The default settings are the way they are because they ARE fair. The non-random boxes with random respawn are weighted to make sure the powerful stuff doesn't come up much, and the weapon rings provide variety. I say again, just because you SUCK at the game doesn't mean everyone else needs to play the way you have the best chance to win.

Super mystic sonic said:
If you can only win with weapons, you're kinda pathetic. Wanna test your skills? Try fighting without grabbing any boxes and weapon rings.
Let me remind you of our good friend, Demo 3-4.X. I was playing back then, before weapon rings and random respawn. I'm perfectly good with a red ring, and have taken down people with weapons plenty of times without a weapon.

Fighting without grabbing weapons and shields isn't "testing your skills", it's "acting like an idiot". The way to win at SRB2 is to gain all the advantage you can, and the levels are designed in such a way to try to allow you to do that. Someone with a weapon and a shield has a MUCH better chance than someone who doesn't. No question. However, that's because that player searched the map to collect those powerups so he had the advantage. That's an essential part of the game, and the risk vs. reward system of placing powerups in well-traveled areas is an essential part of multiplayer level design. Having the player ask himself whether he wants to run to the other end of the map to collect a powerup which could help him defeat his opponents makes the player move from his current location, which means that all the players are more likely to encounter each other in a larger map, as well as providing tension, as a player who gets hit loses his acquired powerups.

Of course the player who searched the maps and spent his time collecting weapons, shields, and rings is going to have the advantage over someone who just sat in a single room, has like 15 rings, and clearly doesn't know how to play. If the player who has the weapons DIDN'T have the advantage over the player that didn't, THAT would be unfair.

The reality is that the game is fair simply because all the players have an equal opportunity to exploit the same things. If someone has the automatic ring and you don't, it's not because they're cheap and are using a weapon. The question is: Why don't you have Automatic? Shouldn't you scour the map for the powerups, like he did, to gain an advantage in combat? That's part of the point of the game, and if you remove that, all you're left with is a blank room, with a few rings, and nothing interesting.

If you don't like SRB2 match, for the love of god, STOP PLAYING IT. Worse, stop suggesting things based on your screwed up logic. I'm completely tired of you telling people their map sucks because it has any weapon ring in it. That's incorrect, and at this point you're pissing me off. Get a clue and go play a REAL game of SRB2 match, in all its "unfair" glory. You'll notice how the same people seem to keep winning over and over. If the game was truly weapon and shield "luck" instead of skill, they wouldn't be winning repetitively, since the game is clearly unbalanced, right? I mean, skill couldn't have ANYTHING to do with winning?

Mystic just sumerized why I hate match: too much thought about simple killing. Not that I have anything against mach, I'd just rather strategize abuot allies, enemys, escorts, pupyguarding, and base protection.

Your right, itemspawn 10 IS unfair

Whats worse is when people make armgiddions the only item...Not saying names...

*CoughSonicxCough*

It all boils down to skill level, essentially. I can recall pegging users with a red ring while they were holding auto, and I can also recall the exact opposite happening to me.

On the subject of hating weapon rings, I really don't see what SMS is complaining about. Weapon rings help to add spice to a game, adding bits of strategy to a game that would be very boring otherwise. While some weapon combos can be a bit unfair (IIRC, this is being fixed as we speak), weapon rings on their own are completely fine.

What's wrong with weapon rings? Do you only use the standard weapons in every other game, too? Sticking with REDRING is like sticking with a Pistol in any other game.
Have fun pumping me full of rubber pistol bullets while I blow your head off with a shotgun.

This reminds me of those bastards who only play rail levels when they host.

Yeah, doing rail-only levels in clag is quite fun.

There's no way I'd be able to win in SRB2 if it weren't for weapon rings. The Rail Ring is a key part of my strategy in many CTF maps, and it would be bland and not-fun if they weren't there.

Thanks for ruining SMS's day, Mystic. ;D

You know something? I never really liked SMS. Honestly.

He act's like he owns everything (own as in ownership, not "pwn") to the extent that he actually created the game, or is an Administrator. All I've seen is his crappy recolor (yes, I said CRAPPY RECOLOR (well, admit it, it's true)) SMS which is the most overpowered wad I've played since HMS (and HMS isn't powerful without SRB2JTE).

Face it SMS, you suck. That's just it. You suck. Just because most other people here don't, doesn't mean you have to lower them to your status. If you suck at Match, leave it alone. Use the time to play well in Co-op or Race (without your overpowered "Mystic Sonic" thing) and make Single Player levels instead of criticising Match wads. It's really annoying.

So far, you are the most noobish person here. Yes, you know how to wad and SOC, but do you use those skills to create something actually good? No. Instead, you use it to scoff at other people's skills and creations to demean them, so you end up looking better than everyone else. But you know what? It makes you look worse.

If you are so good, so amazing, how come everyone thinks of you as "the failure"? It's very amusing to see you act the way you do, and be so much smaller compared to everyone else. Come on. If you are trying to become a moderator or something, it isn't working, and it shall never work. Think about it. Most of the moderators now do not act the way you do.

Get a life, and stop acting like a pompous bastard.

If this is flame, then I'm willing to take the consequences just to get my message heard.

So SMS, get the picture?

Stop.

P.S. I would love to challenge you in ANY type of contest (except for SOCing). That would set things straight.

Me, a newbie
vs.
You, a "well known waddist"

Three days without seeing SMS's ugly avatar is nothing compared to dealing with his annoying comments every day.

Uh ^

I really don't think this is finished business without SMS's thoughts here. Now, while I really think our points are here, we don't have any retaliation.

ORLY?
