Back in the past I would say sega would of been better, but as time went on they seemed to have lost there touch, some of there games are getting quite sloopy and they seem to rush them, whereass nintendo still take there time for there games.
So in simple terms i would say that in the past Sega was better in my opinion, Nowdays I would say Nintendo

Sega hasn't gone bad, Nintendo became the most famous company in the world, Mario the Most-Known star, Pokemon the biggest merchandising videogame series, and star Fox the most known space shooting game, and almost everyone likes Kirby, now, betwen Sega and Capcom there's a better debate.

That's not even a challenge. Capcom still has came out with better games if you ask me. For example (To keep people from saying "That doesn't explain why") Street Fighter 4. Street fighter 4 was a good game because of how everything changed but with Sega it's too many ideas that don't work together.

Bleh, Street Fighter isn't that popular and famous. I never see any people talking about it either.

Now now, I must share my conserns with all of you
Sega's Newer sonic games suffice to younger audiences rather than the older audiences, whilst the older audience loving the classics and wanting more classics.
Also, Nintendo has been going better because the older audience are used to the old mario gameplay, nintendo has not been sputtering new engines, only the 3d Mario games have been sputtering the Sm64 Styled engines.

Nintendo and SEGA both have two different problems. SEGA simply just doesn't make games as well as they used to. Nintendo can make good games, then they'll make about 20 rehashes of them.

Well, This sums it up in general.

I like both kind of. I like Sega because of the older classic Sonic games, and the Phantasy Star Series, and I like Nintendo for Mario, Kirby and the LOZ Series.

Sega. If it weren't for Sega then there wouldn't be the Super NES. Nintendo wasn't even planning on releasing a new console anytime soon at the time because the NES was doing so well. (93% share of the market ftw) If you wondered why the Super NES came out 2 years after the Genesis did then you'd know. There's a saying that goes "Competition promotes excellence". Sega dished out the competition and the war between both companies were so heated up that quality titles were always being produced to try and top out the other. We wouldn't see titles such as the DKC series if it weren't for Sega, the Genesis, and Sonic to propel Sega ahead of the competition, earning an all time high at 63% of the market. They were the only company in history to knock Nintendo and Mario off of their proverbial throne. This fueled Nintendo's motivational hunger to try and strike back and become back on top. They came back on top with the Wii after nearly two decades of being a runner up. Who will be next to knock Nintendo down again so we can get quality titles? I'm one of those who hope Sega comes out of nowhere and steals the thunder once again and piss of Nintendo enough to make great games as well so we can have another great decade of gaming. The 2000s pale in comparison the to 90s.

I also have to agree with some in this topic. The Genesis had a library chock-full of great shooters, arcade games, etc. Then there are the overwhelming amount of underrated games. If anyone is willing to dig through the entire library just to find them, then they'll know why.

Arnold, we're discussing the quality of the things they create, not just because they did something you think is cool or neat.

Man, I'd say are great. Nintendo has this big flaw that they keep trying to apeal to non-gamers, even in their "hardcore" games like Mario, Zelda, etc. Nobody wants to see Wii fit, Wii Sports, or Wii Suck. It could've been replaced by F-Zero, Starfox, or maybe even a new Kid Icarus.

SEGA, although releasing crap now and then still, kinda being on the wrong path,(Sonic and a sword in a horrible Secret Rings engine? Or a WERE freaking Sonic?) has some quality games coming through quite much more and more, Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Rush being great examples. They sure can do it, just need to put it in more time and less Sonic development.

Oh. Well I guess I should've meant Sega's gold standards at the time which set standards for other company higher. That's primarily my reason. We all know Sega is left high and dry now so Nintendo is of course better in the long run.

I believe in the past, they both were on the same wavelegnth. Both producing the same quality games. (Just with Nintendo doing Mario, Zelda, Kirby and Starfox while SEGA was only doing Sonic.)
But both begun to slip, but i saw only Nintendo who picked themselves back up.

That's what I think. (I think we all were surprised when both of the guys started to go 3D. I'm still waiting on Kirby Wii, though. D:<)

For once I'll make a long post:

I agree with UruZingLo: I think they're both good.

That as well. Underrated games. I mean, there are some awesome, but barely known games (such as Metal Arms: Glitch in the System), and the relatively crappier, although somehow more famous (FIFA series, anyone?) ones. That's the main thing that upsets me about games.

I also agree with SMS. The games are recovering, but they need less Sonic himself and more gameplay. *points to Sonic Advance series* Those are the good ones.

Despite that, Nintendo has its flaws. I mean, look at LoZ: Twilight Princess. Wolf form? Oh come on. Werewolf without the weaknesses much. Mario keeps going, but Bowser overuses lava. Why the same old plan with a different twist? It's essentially the same old thing. And besides... According to the SSB series, Peach could kick Bowser's ass. Seriously. Peach also has a generic name, at least in japanese: Peach means Love in said language. This means her real name is Princess Love. GE-NE-RIC.

And I also ignore game reviews that say NOTHING, I repeat, NO-THING, good about the game. All they usually do is whine like a ***** about the bad stuff. One person whined: "GAMECUBEGRAPHICS BADGAMEPLAY ONLYGOODTHINGABOUTGRAPHICSARETHEPOLICELIGHTS ETC ETC ETC" you get the idea. I think that was Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity. I mean, seriously. Okay, Sonic isn't as fast on a board, but you shouldn't whine about it like a total ****ing pain in the neck (excuse my language). Those reviewers are like a disease: they make the others think it's absolutely awful before they even rent it, have it loaned from a friend, or buy it. I've been a victim of sucky games twice (Madagascar mainly, and Iron Man was a bit too easy on Normal). There have also been bad Mario games in the past (mainly for the Famicom (Sonario and Mario Casino (PUSH START TO RICH) anyone?)) And it has its cheapass deaths too. One of Mario Kart Wii's circuits had this leap at one point, and sometimes a fireball hit you. This caused you to fall into the lava pit below and burn. This'd make you drop down a lot in the rankings, thanks to the fact that it killed 8 or so seconds, which is a huge gap in racing. Also, Super Mario Galaxy had it's anoyying bits. In "A sticky situation", you had these spider web thingies, and it was REALLY ANOYYING, because it barely allows mistakes. And it was tricky to get 1ups sometimes. Lots of cheap you-missed-the-target deaths. You can get to the spider webs by spinning sometimes, if it's a close miss, but other times, you just fall into the black hole below. Really gets anoyying.

And as a final note to those who think Sonic fails/is failing: THEN WHY THE (censored) DO YOU PLAY SRB2!?

Peach also has a generic name, at least in japanese: Peach means Love in said language. This means her real name is Princess Love. GE-NE-RIC.
Dunno where you got this, but this is completely wrong. She is named after the fruit. Considering how many things in Mario are named after food, I don't know why this should be in any way surprising.

And as a final note to those who think Sonic fails/is failing: THEN WHY THE (censored) DO YOU PLAY SRB2!?
Because I remember the days back when Sonic didn't fail, and SRB2 is based on that. The very first SRB2 release lets you do something you still can't do in official Sonic games: turn around and walk backwards through the level.

Mario needs to do something different though. Sonic needs to go back to his classic roots. They just work better that way. We're getting the same stuff shoved down our throats from Nintendo. Back then it worked well when the series transitioned from 2-Dimensional adventures to the new Super Mario 64 engine. Even still the objective is pretty much the same.

Sega on the other hand had a formula that already worked. The fantasy universe that Sonic resided in was last seen in Sonic R. Yet Sega thought changing it was for the better. It's been too long of a period to call this a "trial-and-error" excuse and this course of action by Sega was nothing but unexpected at the time during the mid-90s by myself as well as the Sega fanbase. Now in this particular frame of time it's the total opposite. At least Simon Jeffrey is history. Let's see what our new President can do.

Nowdays, Nintendo makes way better games then Sega. Anything Nintendo makes is amazing or atleast decent.

Also, in reponse to what Arnold said, nobody plays Mario games for they're story anyway. Don't mess with the saving Princess Peach from Bowser formula. It works.

I think you misinterpreted what I said. I don't mean the story.
