I went through foxbot deleting nearly everything besides the code to add the bot itself, leading me to believe the issue lies with the vanilla game itself. In addition addbot has no code related to lives or rings.

If a extra live is obtained in multiplayer while a bot is in the game, the client assumes an additional extra live is supposed to be given, causing the live count/ ring count to desync from the server. This was tested with Foxbot, RailAI, and addbot, all resulting in the bug.
